NEW!!
The new 7.0 version is now being shipped! You may download to try the program for five days. PIPEtalk is sold in English only. You can now have your program file on your computer and all your estimate, material and specification files on the company's network! All users have access to the same files.

You have unlimited stand-alone specification and estimate files. Each estimate file can create it's own reports -- Cost Report, Pipe Report by size and a Line List/Dwg List Report without having to load the main program file. Creation, renaming, copying and deletion of the specification and estimate files are handled by PIPEtalk macros from within the new TITLES file.

A new indexer, forecast the older cost to the year and month you want. Version 7.0 has improved macros and new macros to help copy the specs and build estimate/spec files. You have space for 1000 templates in eight files.
WHO CAN INSTALL PIPEtalk and MACROS?
PIPEtalk is very easy to install. Simply Run INSTALL and let the program do the work. The install program can now be downloaded without purchase from the Yahoo store. It will have a stated expiration date. You will need to purchase a key to continue using it. Because PIPEtalk is VBA macro driven from inside the PIPEtalk Excel spreadsheet there is no .EXE program installed. Access to the macros is sold separately. (PIPEtalk will not be shown in the Startup/Programs list.) To run; select the PIPEtalk Icon on your screen, approve the use of macros and you are in business. Because no "executable software" was actually installed, no permissions from Windows are required to install or remove PIPEtalk . The PIPEtalk VBA macros that handle file movements inside the PIPEtalk folder will not operate outside that folder. It is not possible to damage your computer with PIPEtalk's macros.
HOW TO REMOVE THE SOFTWARE FROM YOUR COMPUTER
PIPEtalk pipe estimating software is easily removed. Just delete our folder from the drive folder and the Icon on your screen. It is that simple. No hidden files anywhere on your computer.
GENERAL DISCUSSION OF SOFTWARE
PIPEtalk pipe estimating software began as a simple spreadsheet in September of 1998. After years of programing it was offered for the first time to the public on November 2001 and continues to be improved daily. It operates by using VBA macros within Excel 2003, XP(Home & Professional), 2007 VISTA. No additional program is needed. This pipe estimating software's main file is 130 megs with only CS & SS loaded and over 135 megs with CS & SS units loaded. The file size will vary based on the units that you load and the size of the estimate created. It is recommended to run with at least 1000 K of ram on a 1.8 GHz computer. The faster the better. The new Duo chips seem to run Excel much faster than the older machines. Vista machines will need all the power you can get, Vista is a hog for power.

The pipe estimating unit man-hour files and specification files are separate to the main pipe software file and are loaded/unloaded from the setup screen. The program can estimate pipe, pipe fittings, welds, valves and bolt-ups by selecting the specification to use, then entering a short abbreviation for the estimate unit. The new "Assistant" can help you do the take off. The specifications are broken down into pipe four (4) size range/groups. Each pipe size group has its own criteria within the specification. Some pipe specifications for ConcoPhillips, International Paper and Georgia Pacific are included.

A set of generic specifications are also included so you can design your own specifications. The generic specs are: STD WT(CS XS,STD WALL), C30(CS SCH 30), C40+(CS SCH 40), C40-T(CS SCH 40 THR), C60(CS SCH 60), C80(CS SCH 80), C80-T(CS SCH 80 THR), C100(CS SCH 100),C120(CS SCH 120), C140(CS SCH 140), C160(CS(SCH 160), C160-9M(CS SCH 160 W/ 9M SW), CXXH-9M(CS SCH XXH W/ 9M FS), C30-C(CS SCH 30 COATED), C40-C(CS SCH 40), CS8040(CS SCH 80/40), C40GALV(CS GALV SCH 40) STD-MI(CS/MI STD THR), C80-300MI(CS S/80/300#MI THR), S45(SS 304L SCH 5), S41(SS 304L SCH 10), S44(SS 304L SCH 40), S48(SS 304L SCH 80), S416(SS 304L SCH 160), S41-B(SS 304L S/10 BELLED SB), S65(SS 316L SCH 5), S61(SS 316L SCH 10), S64(SS 316L SCH 40), S68(SS 316L SCH 80), S616(SS 316L SCH 160), S61-B(SS 316L BELLED SB), C40-P9(CS S40 WP9(CS.,FS.)), CSTD-P9(CS STD WT WP9(CS.,FS.)), C40-P11(CS S40 WP11(CS.,FS.)), C80-P11(CS S80 WP11 1 1/4 CR), C40-P22(CS S40 WP22(C.S,F.S)), C80-P22(CS S80 WP22(C.S,F.S)), C160-P22(CS S160 WP22(C.S,F.S)), CXXH-P22(CS SCH XXH P22 W/6M), C60-P91(CS S60 WP91(C.S.,F.S.)), C120-P91(CS S120 WP91(C.S.,F.S.)), C140-P91(CS S140 WP91(C.S.,F.S.)), CXXHP91(CS XXH P91 W/ 9M SW(C.S.,F.S.)), FRP50(IP FRP CLASS 50), FRP100(IP FRP CLASS 100), FRP150(IP FRP CLASS 150), PVC(PVC SCH 40), INC40(INCONEL B167), MON40(MONEL B165), TI40(TI B337), KYNAR40(KYNAR S/40), KYNAR80(KYNAR S/80), SDR-11(SDR-11 POLY), TLINED_CS(TEFLON LINED CS S/40), TLINED316(TEFLON LINED 316 S/40), S91(SS TP309/A312 SCH 10), C5L(API 5L FPE COATED X42, X60, X65),STD WT C&W(STD WALL C&W 6" 40 FT JTS.

Universal items such as hangers, concrete and structural steel is entered at the same time you enter the pipe. You can now use the new template file for hangers! You never have to use any drop down menus in this pipe estimating software to change between pipe and civil. Both pipe, pipe fittings, steel and concrete are taken off with out interruption in the takeoff process in the same screen. Codes separate the disipline groups after the takeoff is completed.
TAKEOFF METHOD EXPLAINED
After you do the setup and confirm the specifications, to enter a takeoff: enter the line information which includes the line name, to, from, field/shop split allowed, height, insulation, heat trace and paint. Select the specification to use. Select to see a sample of pipe being entered--AVI file--please wait for 2 mg download. Enter the first size (And 2nd size for reducers), then SEEK CODE, then quantity and note if wanted. For the next entry enter only the SEEK CODE and quantity if the size stays the same or change the size too. Quantities default to one, so you may not have to enter the quantity. You can over-ride the spec and who provides the material on any line item! Mix carbon steel with stainless or alloy. Decide if you want a multiplier different than setups then press calculate to see the results. The new Assistant knows the SEEK CODE, so can use it to help you make an entry. Finished with that line? Then press the macro button for a fresh screen to do the next pipe line. The estimate is stored for your review and only one button away. Want to re-use the last takeoff for the next line? Just push one button and you have the last takeoff. Want to set up some typical lines? You have two storage locations that can be accessed. You can also build a template and reuse it in the estimate. SEEK CODES allow you to enter the takeoff very fast--As fast as you can talk! Unless they are an auctioneer, entry is so fast that you would have to wait on the person looking at the drawing. Some examples are: Pipe=P, Tee=T, Reducing tee=TR, 90=90, 45=45, Coupling=C, Nipple=N, Concentric reducer=RC and Eccentric reducer=RE. These are all listed in the book and in the help screens. The Assistant knows the SEEK CODE, just pick the item! Very easy to use and remember. There are large quantities hangers in the units, both painted and galvanized. Manufactor's cross reference PDF is included in the reference files. PIPEtalk can suggest the number of hangers you need by size--spec adjustable! The majority of the standard steel shapes are also included, both painted and galvanized. Concrete shapes are defined with forms, rebar, placement, chamfer, etc...all can be estimated as you do the pipe. The new Assistant makes estimating the foundation much easier. Non-specification driven items are mixed with specification items in the same screen and takeoff! Pick a concrete shape type and then the part item (IE: rebar, form, etc) by using the Assistant or type in the SEEK Code.
INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR THE PIPE ESTIMATING SOFTWARE
A 411 page color manual is provided as a PDF for this software. The book is divided into thirteen chapters. Each aspect of PIPEtalk is discussed in great detail. Screen shots from the pipe estimating software are included
SETUP
When you open the file, the program will setup the file. The Setup Screen provides a place to pre-select how PIPEtalk will calculate the estimate. The following subjects are on the setup screen; 1) The estimate file contains the takeoff, a material analysis, cost reports and pipe analysis. 2) Who provides the large and small bore pipe/fittings/valves, instruments, bolt/gaskets, hangers, hanger steel, building steel, concrete materials, earthwork and process equipment. 3) Names for the specification and material files 4) Various multipliers on labor and materials 5) Takeoff Screen formatting the estimate 6) Domestic or import price selection for piping 7) Which unit pipe estimating man-hour set to use 8) Insulation equivalents for the pipe 9) Build crew mixes and rates for the estimate 10) Field and shop split calculations 11) Define large and small bore pipe sizes 12) Selection for error checks and messages 13) The default prices will need to be checked against today's prices. YOU adjust the multipliers so that the data base prices reflect today's price.
MAN-HOUR UNITS USED IN THE SOFTWARE
PIPEtalk's unit man-hour material files contain over 171,000 man-hour units. These units provide man-hours, weld counts, paint and insulation. Space is provided for cost code, schedule C-GEN codes, weights and default prices at each unit. There are 25,000 carbon steel units which cover STD, S/30, S/40, S/60, S/80, S/100, S/120, S/140, S/160, XH and XXH. Included are 10,000 forged steel fittings, 10,000 malleable iron fittings, 9,000 SS 304 and 9,000 SS 316 units. The stainless steel units cover S/5, S/10, S/40 and S/80 walls. There are units for alloy 20, alloy 11, alloy 22, alloy 91, polyethylene, PVC, FRP and alloy 2205. A section called Universal Items provides a very large assortment of Grinnell hangers, steel shapes, civil units and equipment (Over 55,000 items). All the units are used in the same takeoff screen. There is no need to switch between pipe and fittings or between piping and civil---codes keep them separated. These units are averages of many sources. Not all items are priced.
REPORTS CREATED BY THE PIPE ESTIMATING SOFTWARE
the WBS you provide and another based on the parts.

The Reports are copied by macro to the estimate file and provide a summary for large and small bore pipe separately for the following information; 1) Quantities and man-hours for pipe, welds, boltups, control valves, expansion joints, fittings, hanger steel, hangers, hoses, instruments, nipples, weld-o-lets, strainers/traps, spools, tubing, tube fittings, valves, bends, couplings and reducing fittings. 2) A listing of each pipe line in the estimate which shows the estimate takeoff code, line number, drawing, to and from. 3) A list of all the pipe lines organized to create schedule events. Included for the note field is a summary of the lines takeoff. Also a separate cell provides the total man-hours for each pipe line. 4) A summary by the pipe specifications. 5) A summary by the estimate takeoff code. 6) A report of the craft man-hours breakdown.

You just ask by email for the newest copy and I will send it totally free. The macros and formulas are very complex and do have a possibility for errors. The newest copy will have any problems located. If you have an old version, email me for a copy of the newest.

Only six of all the PIPEtalk programs have ever been returned as of November 2007. One customer simply changed her mind. She never opened the disk or loaded the software. She said, "I do not have time to learn the program". (We did not ask) You should expect that you have to invest in some time to learn any program. We just trained nine people in Shreveport LA and they were pleased at the ease of use. With a flexible powerful program, you need time to learn all it can do. You should also expect to spend some time adjusting setups, units and prices to align PIPEtalk with your experience values. The other customer that returned PIPEtalk actually wanted to use it to only do insulation. Another was going to purchase Icarus to do budget estimates from Engineering information instead of uisng PIPEtalk . The last two said it was too difficult to use--they knew very little about Excel.
